Our Club Coaches are dedicated to helping athletes achieve personal bests, and preparing them for higher levels of competition. All coaches have at least an NCCP Level 1 (ie Sport Coach) training and/or certification.
Sheldan is a certified throws and jumps coach (NCCP Level 3 throws, Level 2 jumps; IAAF Level 5 throws) who oversees the Athletics Victoria throws program. In 2014 BC Athletics awarded Sheldan Senior Coach of the Year in BC! Over the years Sheldan helped guide several athletes to BC High School, BC Club and/or Canadian Championship titles. He always encourages athletes to try for personal bests (PBs) and to make sure you enjoy the sport. Whether your goals are to improve a PB, try a new event, or make a national team, Sheldan treats all athletes equally and is fully deserving of this honour!!
Duncan is a Certified Sport Coach who oversees the Athletics Victoria Power Speed program. A hard working track and field athlete in his youth, Duncan has professional experience as a kinesiologist with expertise in exercise rehabilitation and sport performance. A strong advocate of developmentally appropriate training, Duncan has a wealth of experience coaching youth and adults in track and field, short course triathlon, and strength training over the past 30 years.
Laurie has been coaching since 2006 and is a Certified Sport Coach. he is a trained and certified coach in throws, sprints/hurdles and jumps. Some of Laurie's past coaching experience includes:

Athletics/Wheelchair Racing Coach
Sean Steele was originally certified in 1982 and over the years has coached various programs that he continues to be involved with. Sean coordinates the Athletics Victoria wheelchair racing program, and provides direct coaching or support in other areas as needed. A competitive decathlete in his youth, Sean continues to compete in masters track and field and is the point of contact for master athletes wishing to experience the fun of masters athletics.
Pole Vault Coach
Owen is one of the club’s preeminent pole vault coaches (NCCP Level 1). A pole vaulter himself with a long and stellar career (Canadian champion; national team member; Commonwealth Games team member), Owen guides the next generation of vaulters through a comprehensive year round training program.
Head Pole Vault Coach
Gerard has been coaching with the club since 1966 and can be considered the club coach emeritus. Gerard was the national pole vault champion of France, and on immigrating to Canada, became one of Canada’s leading vaulters for the next decade. The former head coach for the University of Victoria track and field team, Gerard brings decades of experience to the pole vault program. Gerard’s athletes have been selected for provincial, national and international teams (Pan American, Commonwealth and Olympic Games)
