Parent Participation and Volunteer Hours

Parent Participation Mandatory Volunteer Bond

Athletics Victoria relies on volunteers to make the club run smoothly and be fun for all. From the all-volunteer coaches to the Board Members, volunteering is what makes AV a success.

Many people are unaware of just how much volunteer work is necessary to keep the club functioning well.  A volunteer bond is being introduced to encourage all members to step forward and help. The 12 hour time commitment requested is not unreasonable, and the help is beneficial and greatly appreciated. At the completion of 12 hours the cheque will be returned or destroyed or, if the choice is to not complete the volunteer hours, the cheque will be deposited.

There are many ways one can volunteer.  If you plan to watch your child’s practice you can help to set up equipment, rake sand pits; clean/sort the Uvic bunker or put out hurdles.  In addition to these opportunities, we officiate 1 or more events at every VIAA track meet and we host the annual Dogwood Meet. Not to worry, training is provided.

Please note: Each family is expected to volunteer 4-6 hours at the Dogwood Meet in early May.  This is a great way to cover off half the volunteer hours in one weekend, right at home!

Our track club is responsible for officiating the discus and hand timing at every island track meet (there are 5 VIAA meets, with the exception of the Dogwood Meet.  Each season, a short demonstration is offered for all parents to learn how to officiate. Every family is expected to participate in at every meet that they attend. Depending on numbers, we hope this will only require one shift for the full weekend.

The mandatory post-dated Volunteer Deposit cheque (June 30, 2018) will be collected during the Registration period.  Please note your child will not be completely registered until we receive your Volunteer Deposit.
